Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Do you experience pain or tingling in your fingers? Are you feeling numbness or decreased sensation in one or both hands? Do you find yourself having trouble gripping or pinching? Is this affecting your sleep?

If you’re experiencing symptoms such as tingling, numbness, or grip difficulties, it may be helpful to speak with a qualified practitioner to determine the cause and explore treatment options.

Your first step to having a Carpal Tunnel Surgery is to schedule an appointment with Dr Khan at West Coast Plastic Surgery. Get your GP to send us a referral to apply for a Medicare rebate for your consultation (special conditions apply from Medicare). You can also contact us by phone at 0862303041 or by fax at 0862303042. Alternatively, you can send an email to admin@westcoastplasticsuregry.com.au.  A team member will get in touch with you to book your appointment, and you can ask any questions you may have.

Carpal tunnel syndrome is treated primarily with surgery. Steroid injections and splints can be done with ultrasound guidance in the early stages of injury. Surgery is often considered when other conservative treatments, such as splinting or injections, do not offer sufficient relief. This can be discussed in detail during your consultation.

You can expect some swelling, numbness, and discomfort during the healing process. Dr Khan will provide you with specific post-operative instructions. The initial healing of your wound may take between ten to fourteen days. Our clinic will remove the dressings from surgery in a week and the sutures in two weeks. As long as you have bandages on your hand and are in pain, you should not drive.

Pain following surgery varies between individuals, and your surgeon may prescribe appropriate medication to support your recovery. To help manage swelling, it may be helpful to apply ice packs during the first few days. Keeping your wrist elevated, particularly at night using two to three pillows, can also be beneficial. Swelling and bruising typically reduce over time as healing progresses.

After your first consultation with Dr Khan, he will be able to assess your needs and requirements. A bespoke treatment plan that best suits your needs will be provided to you. Following your consultation, the cost of your personalized procedure will be provided to you.
