What is Cubital Tunnel Syndrome?

Cubital Tunnel Syndrome is a medical condition caused by compression or stretching of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. This nerve provides sensation to the little finger and half of the ring finger, and supplies most of the muscles in the hand.

Common Symptoms

Patients may experience:

  • Numbness or tingling in the ring and little fingers
  • Decreased or abnormal sensation in the fingers or hand
  • Potential sleep disruption due to nerve discomfort
  • In advanced cases, there may be muscle wasting and weakness in the hand

Nerve Pathway and Compression

The ulnar nerve can experience compression or stretching at various points along its path from the neck to the hand. The most common site of compression is the inner side of the elbow, known as the cubital tunnel.

Important Medical Considerations

  • Individual symptoms and treatment outcomes can vary
  • A comprehensive medical evaluation is essential for accurate diagnosis
  • Consultation with a qualified healthcare professional is recommended for proper assessment and treatment options

Your first step to having a Cubital Tunnel Syndrome surgery is to schedule an appointment with Dr Khan at West Coast Plastic Surgery. Get your GP to send us a

consultation (special conditions apply from Medicare). You can also contact us by phone at 0862303041 or by fax at 0862303042. Alternatively, you can send an email to admin@westcoastplasticsuregry.com.au. You will be contacted by a team member to book your appointment, and you can ask any questions you may have.

During the healing process, you may experience swelling, numbness, and discomfort that can be controlled with medication. You will receive specific post-operative instructions from Dr Khan. Initial healing may take 7 – 10 days. In a week or two, our clinic will remove the dressings from the surgery. When your hand is covered in a bandage and you are in pain, you should not drive.

Fortunately, the surgery is a good pain management method. The weakness that results from muscle wasting is permanent, but surgery may prevent further muscle atrophy.

After your first consultation with Dr Khan, he will be able to assess your needs and requirements. A bespoke treatment plan that best suits your needs will be provided to you. Following your consultation, the cost of your personalized procedure will be provided to you.
