It usually takes us 10-14 days to remove the sutures at our clinic. Depending on where the cyst is located, absorbable sutures might be used instead. The surgical wound will initially be dressed. Following suture removal, you may need to see a hand therapist to do some hand exercises. Return to work will vary based on your job duties. Upon discharge, Dr Khan will provide you with specific post-op instructions.
Your hand will be covered with a large bulky dressing, and you will need to keep it dry while your incision is closed.
Whether you get a local or general anaesthetic, you can go home on the same day. After your hand is operated, you should not lift anything for two weeks to ensure proper healing. The stitches are removed by your doctor or nurse two weeks after surgery. The first follow up appointment with your specialist will be in two to six weeks after surgery so that your hand can be assessed for sensation and movement.
